Buttigieg has served as mayor of South Bend, Indiana, since 2012. He announced his campaign for president in April. He is a former president of the Indiana Urban Mayors Caucus and was a candidate for chair of the Democratic National Committee in 2017. Buttigieg served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
