Roberts is the executive director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation and has expertise in the Constitution, the history of education in the U.S. and school reform. Previously, he worked as a history professor in New Mexico and started his own elementary school in Louisiana. Roberts also served as president of Wyoming Catholic College.
