Lakey is an expert in disease prevention, outbreak and community health services, and currently works as vice chancellor for health affairs and chief medical officer for the University of Texas System. He also serves as senior advisor to the president and professor of medicine at the UT Health Science Center in Tyler. Previously, Lakey served as commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services.
