Chesney joined the University of Texas School of Law, where he teaches law and serves as director of the Strauss Center for International Security and Law, in 2008. Previously, he served on the Justice Department’s Detention Policy Task Force under President Barack Obama. Chesney is also a co-founder of Lawfare, a member of the American Law Institute and a senior editor for the Journal of National Security Law & Policy.
