Duncan served as U.S. secretary of education from 2009 to 2015 under President Barack Obama. Previously, he served as CEO of Chicago public schools and ran the Ariel Education Initiative, a nonprofit that works to create educational opportunities in economically disadvantaged areas. Duncan also serves as managing director at Chicago CRED, a nonprofit dedicated to stopping gun violence in Chicago.
