Chira was named editor-in-chief of The Marshall Project in March. She previously worked at The New York Times as a reporter and editor from 1981 to 2019, including as foreign editor and deputy executive editor. While at the Times, Chira was a member of a team that won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for coverage of sexual harassment and the #MeToo movement.
