Haines is a national writer on race and ethnicity for The Associated Press. She started at the AP in 2002 in the Atlanta bureau, where she later covered urban affairs and the Georgia legislature for seven years, and returned to AP in Philadelphia in 2015. Haines also has worked for The Washington Post, the Orlando Sentinel and the Los Angeles Times.
