Scharfenberg joined The Center for Investigative Reporting in 2003 and has led its growth from a small nonprofit newsroom to a multiplatform news outlet. She also led the launch of the national public radio show and podcast “Reveal” and has been an executive director or senior producer for many of CIR’s documentaries, including the Academy Award-nominated film “Heroin(e).” Previously, Scharfenberg served as associate director of the Film Arts Foundation.
